Beyond the drive

Auckland, 5 March 2026.  Mazda Motors of New Zealand today announces range details for the all-new Mazda CX-5.

Since its debut in 2012, CX-5 has grown to become a mainstay vehicle that drives brand and business growth by deepening the joy of driving, incorporating key aspects of Mazda’s identity, including Skyactiv technology and Kodo design.

Now in its third generation, the all-new CX-5 builds upon its standout values that have made it a Kiwi favourite and Mazda's most popular vehicle in the local range, with an emphasis on confident driving dynamics, along with a refined and spacious interior.

Visually, the all-new CX-5 retains a striking and familiar silhouette to previous CX-5 models. The latest expression of Kodo design sees key elements like the Signature Wing front grille now flanked by LED headlights with a two-tiered DRL lighting signature. Other elements, like an enhanced wheelbase share a sense of visual width and stability.

At launch, CX-5 will be powered by Mazda's respected SkyActiv-G 2.5 four-cylinder engine, producing 132 kW of power and 242 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive (AWD). Delivering improved fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions than its predecessor, the proven powertrain receives a string of updates engineered to provide an even more intuitive interaction between driver inputs and vehicle response.

Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) allows the driver to choose between Normal, Sport and Off-Road drive modes, which can optimise the performance of transmission and AWD system for varying driving conditions.

Inside the cabin, CX-5 offers a sense of calm and reassurance. Not only is the new CX-5 quieter than the outgoing model, but the interactions between the vehicle and occupants have been thoroughly considered to offer a simple, streamlined experience.

A key component of that experience for many customers is the technology suite, which is comprised of features like a large driver's display, an available head-up display projected on the windshield and either a 12.9-inch or 15.6-inch centre infotainment display, depending on grade. This latest iteration of the Mazda Connect system features an intuitive smartphone-like user interface which allows the driver to remain firmly focused on the road ahead with reduced distraction.

The introduction of the all-new CX-5 brings with it a revised product grade and nomenclature, in line with other recent models from Mazda.

CX-5 Touring

Representing the entry point to the CX-5, the Touring features an ample list of convenience and technology features that customers can enjoy with daily use. Fitted with standard 17-inch alloy wheels, the Touring also features LED headlights for improved safety and visibility and privacy glass for added cabin comfort.

Inside, an eight-speaker stereo system is paired to a 12.9-inch touchscreen display Mazda Connect infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.  Qi wireless mobile phone charging, dual-zone climate control and cloth-covered seats with heating for front occupants ensure high levels of comfort and convenience for all.

CX-5 SP

Building off the CX-5 Touring, CX-5 SP offers a step-up in both design and standard equipment.  A successor to the previous range favourite, the CX-5 GSX, the SP’s exterior additions include 19-inch alloy wheels in a black and machined finish, along with gloss black roof rails and electrically operated tailgate.

Within the cabin the driver’s seat includes electric adjustment, and all seats are covered in a deluxe leatherette trim.  Mazda’s full colour Active Driving Display system projects the most important information onto the windscreen to allow drivers to keep their eyes on the road ahead.  A heated steering wheel and heated windscreen are two further highlights.

CX-5 Homura

Representing an additional step up visually, CX-5 Homura can be denoted by the use of black gloss contrasting elements on the exterior. Its 19-inch wheels are now in a black metallic finish, similarly the bumper trims and wheelarch mouldings.  For the first time in a CX-5, a large panoramic sunroof is featured adding even more light into the airy cabin for all occupants.

The CX-5 Homura features luxurious leather seat trim, the passenger seat is now electrically adjustable, and the outer rear seats are heated.  Additionally, audio sees a generous upgrade with the inclusion of 12-speaker Bose system.

For added assistance while manoeuvring and parking, the CX-5 Homura includes a 360 View Monitor with See-Through View to give a superior perspective of surroundings from the driver’s seat.  For the first time, the 360 View Monitor continues to provide full vision even when the exterior mirrors are in a folded position, whilst also providing a view of the road surface beneath the vehicle with a semi-transparent outline over the top.

CX-5 Takami

Headlining the CX-5 range is the Takami, which further builds on the well-appointed CX-5 Homura.  Now with the inclusion of a hands-free function for the electrically operated tailgate, the standard 12.9-inch touch display is swapped for a larger 15.6-inch display, and paddle shifters to control transmission gear changes are added behind the steering wheel for an even more engaging drive.

The CX-5 Takami also features leather seating in an exclusive Sport Tan colour, with the front seats gaining a ventilation function.  Driver Personalisation System, first seen on the flagship CX-90, assists the driver in automatically adjusting their mirrors and seating position, an innovative feature to support the driver to achieve an optimum position for comfort and control over the vehicle.

Launching Spring 2026, pricing for the all-new CX-5 is expected in the coming months.  Pre-sale activity has begun for the all-new CX-5, with the Mazda dealer network now taking expressions of interest for the new model.
